Gain a skill of joy to begin the year with calm
Make a Tiny Hardcover Book from Scrap Paper
A self-paced online bookmaking workshop where you turn stuff you already have into something useful and meaningful.
This workshop is an invitation to pause
Step away from the noise,
the rush,
the heaviness of the world
and sit down with some scraps,
your hands,
and a wandering mind.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll make:
A gorgeous tiny hardcover book
📕 A7-size (3 x 4.5 in approx.)
📕 Filled with scrap paper or blank paper
📕 Cover wrapped with thrifted fabric bookcloth
📕 Bound with French link & kettle stitch
📕 Decorated with endbands
📕 Has grooves along the spine
Why make a book to start the year?
Because maybe you’re feeling it too:
😖 The recent years have been mean.
You are exhausted and live in a survival mode. Your desire to rest and relax is buried under to-do lists and anxiety.
🤚 You miss doing things with your hands.
You want to craft a physical thing you care about. You’re craving a calm activity, not another screen-heavy course.
💰 You want to avoid buying new or pricey art supplies.
You have some scraps and want to give it a second life. You want a project that doesn’t take up much space.
This workshop ISN’T about productivity
It’s about comforting your soul,
rekindling your creativity,
reminding yourself how it feels to build something with your hands,
and to do something only for pure joy.
This workshop is for YOU if:
- You want to do a fun, creative, and gentle activity.
- You want a calm and relaxing experience, not just to get a quick result.
- You want to craft a physical thing that is meaningful and useful.
- You want an activity that helps you bond with somebody or get to know them better.
- You have paper or fabric scraps or can get them somewhere.
This is the kind of workshop you do to reset your mind. Let go of worries and trust the process.

What my students say
It was easy to follow and I thought the stitching was going to be harder, but I got it down pretty fast! I’ve made one and now I’m hooked and I want to make more! Who can I make journal gifts for?
This was fun to just focus on the craft, take time for myself and just be in the moment and end up with this pretty little journal!
It definitely wasn’t perfect and I’ve got some things to work on but overall I’m very happy with my little journal!”
I really enjoyed the program. I like that you linked the supplies list to things that you used. It was easy for me to get a few things that I didn’t have. I like that you gave me a pdf version and a YouTube version. I mostly used the YouTube version, especially the part when I stitched the pages together.
My little book turned out great! I can’t wait to try and make more!”
This workshop ISN’T just about making ONE book—
It’s about planting a creative foundation you can grow and build upon
Once you understand the bookmaking basics, ideas naturally start to unfold.
- What if you embroidered the bookcloth?
- What if you made your own endbands?
- What if you used handmade paper or different fabric or different thread color?
Imagine how fun that would be. Imagine how fulfilling your life could become.
Meet Gift Homsaen, the creator
I come from Thailand and have lived in the US since 2018. Now my home is in Sammamish, WA.
I was a web developer turned paper crafter.
My brand, Down to Earth Paper was created when I realized I didn’t enjoy tackling clients’ website issues anymore. It’s only fun when working on my projects.
This work also drained me due to endless hours spent in front of a screen.
I found papercrafting rebalances my life and teaches me mindfulness. I put a lot of focus on using recycled paper and fabric to keep the cost down and the waste low. It is always my passion to live a low-waste life.
Therefore, it’s such a rewarding experience to share my stories and passion with you through my paper crafts and spread my joy of crafting through education such as this workshop.
Join the workshop or gift it to someone because we all deserve the time to rest, recharge, and re-discover our long lost creativity.
